My Senones nearly ready for battle

My Gallic contingent for Andy Hawes’ Dux Italica campaign is nearing completion.

Primed and ready for painting is the final contingent of Senone nobles. They are a mix of Victrix plastics and Foundry metals.

I have finished painting the renowned chieftain Vitalstatistix to lead my Senones. He is raised on a shield proclaiming his status and prowess in battle. 

I like the linothorax he is wearing. This is probably quite authentic for 4^th C BC. Although the Gauls are credited for introducing mail armour, noble warriors could well have copied or appropriated linen protection from their Greek, Roman and Etruscan opponents before the wide spread use of mail.

It could be that he was the inspiration for the character of the same name in the Asterix comics (Abraracourcix in the original French). His shield is painted with a white star on blue background as per the Asterix character. The same goes for his green tunic and blue trousers with black stripes.

I have also painted up some old Hinchliffe slingers to help keep the Romans at bay.
