Don't forget the sun cream!

Rumour has it that the fearsome warrior Fanatix has led a band of Gaesati over the alps to aid the Senones in their fight against Rome.

Fanatix and his standard bearer are 28mm Relic Miniatures. The other figures are a mix of Relic metals and Victrix plastics. They will serve with the Senones in Andy Hawes’ Dux Italica campaign.

I decided to go for all black-faced shields with varying patterns. Most have Little Big Man transfers but a few are hand painted. Their hair is stiffened with lime — the effect created by a white dry-brush over the base hair colour. I decided against woad paint or tattoos — leaving this to my Picts and Ancient Brits.

Finding the Italian climate a bit too hot for their liking, the Gaesati seem to have discarded all their clothing.  We can only hope that they have a good supply of factor 50 sunscreen and that they moisturise regularly.

Accompanying them is Cacofonix — a slightly diminutive piper from an old Ral Partha 25mm figure that had been lying around in my spares box for many years. No doubt the screeching sound of his pipes will seriously discomfort the Romans.
