The Picts are Coming!

Coracles have been seen off the coast near Southwold! Will the wild, painted Picti from the North ally with the Saxons or are they on their own mission of plunder?

I have been busy painting a Pict contingent for our ongoing Dux Britanniarum campaign set in Caer Colun.

The archers are old Irregular and Minifigs 25mil. They bring to mind Rosemary Sutcliff’s description of the wee dark folk:

"Long before the Epidii came following their white horse out of the sunrise, long before any of the Golden People, the little Dark Folk had been the lords of the land. They were the People of the Hills, the hunters and the growers of corn. They were the builders of the great circle of standing stones on the high moors.”

These somewhat more robust warriors are Gripping Beast plastics

Accompanying them are some of the best warriors who have managed to round up ponies from the countryside.

The figures are Wargames Foundry and unlike so many other manufacturers Foundry provide suitably small horses for the Picts to ride.

These spearmen have been languishing in my lead pile for decades and have now finally been painted. I am no longer sure of the manufacturer but I suspect they may be Old Glory.

Accompanying them are some beardless youths with javelins.

My Picts have yet to see battle on the wargames table but they will have their chance soon.

I have looked at the winds and tides, and have forecast that those painted warriors are likely to come to battle with the good citizens of Caer Colun, or perhaps clash with the Saxon invaders, on 2nd December...
