Renewing the Games Table

I have decided it is finally time to replace my moth and mouse-eaten games table felt with a new one.

This is a new 8 x 6 foot green felt. The relatively bright green does not look much like the sort of terrain my armies would be fighting on. So it is time to call on my inner Banksy and get the spray paints out. Before this is over all 4 tins of Humbrol spray acrylics will be completely used up.

With the grass needing mowing I lay it outside and give first go emptying a tin of Desert Sand which begins to tone it down. Tomorrow I shall cut the grass to get rid of any spill-over.

Several passes later, using up full tins of Humbrol Desert Sand, Dark Earth, Olive Drab and Grass Green the mat begins to look better.
My previous mat also had flocking attached with the aid of 3M Scotch-Weld spray. I may do this again although much of the flock wore off over time. I shall let the current mat bed-in and see what I think later but it probably needs a bit more work to look more realistic.
Bits of the the old mat will be cut up to serve as templates for woodland.
