Reinforcements for Queenston Heights

Our initial Queenston 1812 game saw the Americans gain possession of the British redan on the heights. I have since being painting reinforcements for the British/Canadian counter-attack which will be played in a couple of weeks time.

Leading the attack will be Captain (now Major) Dennis’s Grenadier company of the 49th Foot (green facings and black plumes). They have been reinforced by the newly painted Grenadiers of the 41st (red facings and white plumes). The figures are Perry British Napoleonic plastics with some additional arms from Victrix British Waterloo Flank Company.

Also just off the painting table is the Light Company of the 41st. These are Victrix British Waterloo Flank Company with Perry heads. Victrix and Perry bits and pieces fit well together. As I had Victrix Waterloo figures I needed the earlier Perry stovepipe shakos for them to work for 1812. The Perry set does not have enough flank company arms for me to make all the grenadiers and light infantry I needed.

The British have a colour party from the 49th ready to raise the Union Flag once again over the redan if they are able to recapture it.

Reinforcing the Americans is a company of the 1st US Rifles in their classic green hunting shirts with buff fringes. These figures are Wee Wolf metals. Wee Wolf has the most extensive War of 1812 range and characterful miniatures. As they come from the US, postage and customs can add quite a bit of cost here in the UK.

The US Militia are refusing to cross the river for fear of the Mohawks. However, a second company of the 6th US regular Infantry has just been painted and ready to join their fellows on the heights. These are Wargames Foundry figures.

Lovely! And few more Yankees wouldn't go amiss, Simon. Obviously stepping out rather than skirmish poses, because it is just a matter of marching...
